Groom
Closing Date: Applications reviewed on receipt
Millfield School is looking for an experienced Groom to become a valuable member of our team. This role is suited to individuals who already have hands-on experience working with horses in a professional yard environment and who are confident, competent riders. Applicants must be aged 18 or over (due to the age group of students you'll be working with).
Our impressive Equestrian Centre boasts spacious indoor and outdoor arenas, accommodating up to 40 horses. With six school horses and numerous student livery horses, you will care for your allocated horses and support the rest of the team in the routine work of the yard including riding and exercising the horses.
Working in a collaborative and supportive environment, you will enjoy being part of a small team dedicated to welfare of the horses in our care and the well-being and education of our teenage students.
At Millfield School, we prioritise your professional development. As a Groom, you will immerse yourself in all aspects of stable management and actively participate in our groom development programme. We are proud to be a BHS approved centre, offering staff training to support qualifications within the BHS Excellence Pathway. By joining our team, you will gain invaluable experience and be encouraged to enhance your skills further.
We have both a 52-week, full-time position and a term-time only position available.
The role is based on a five-day working week, with two weekly rest days allocated on a fortnightly rotating rota. For the 52-week position, our full-time grooming team works 7:30am to 5:30pm during school holidays and 6:45am to 6:30pm during term time. The day is split by a tea break for breakfast and a 1.5-hour lunch break. On average, you will work 48 hours per week.
The term-time only position follows the same working pattern during term time but does not require attendance during school holiday periods.
In both roles, you will be allocated two hours per week for staff training, providing riding or practical training opportunities with our team of coaches.
Recognising your hard work and dedication, Millfield School offers a salary package that includes payment towards ongoing exam and assessment fees. The salary for the 52-week, full-time position is £31,724.16 per annum. The salary for the term-time only position is £21,761.68 per annum (inclusive of holiday pay). On-site accommodation is available in an ensuite room with a shared lounge and kitchen at a rate of £120 per month (plus a £120 deposit), inclusive of bills. Following successful completion of the 8-month probation period, there is also the option to keep your horse at Millfield (subject to availability) at a cost of £254 per month.
Please indicate within the Supporting Statement section of your application whether you are applying for the 52-week position or the term-time only position.
