We're looking for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team at Lift Hamford, working within The Ark, our specialist Autism Hub. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting autistic pupils to access learning, develop independence and achieve their full potential.
In this role, you'll work closely with teachers, the SENDCo and the wider school team to provide personalised support for pupils with a range of learning, communication and sensory needs. You'll help create a structured, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, supported and able to thrive academically and socially.
If you're ambitious about developing your career, we also offer Level 3 and Level 5 teaching assistant apprenticeships, plus access to our Initial Teacher Training programme.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- support pupils' learning within The Ark Autism Hub, helping them access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities;
- develop an understanding of pupils' individual needs, including autism, communication and sensory differences, and adapt support strategies accordingly;
- work closely with teachers to deliver engaging learning activities and targeted interventions;
- support pupils to develop communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence skills;
- build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging confidence, resilience and self-esteem;
- use personalised strategies to promote positive behaviour and support pupils' emotional wellbeing;
- contribute to creating a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment; and
- work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral staff, the SENDCo and parents and carers to support pupils' learning and development.
What we're looking for
You will have:
- GCSE maths and English at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards English and maths functional skills qualifications;
- a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards achieving one;
- good communication and interpersonal skills;
- patience and empathy in your interactions with a variety of students and situations;
- a collaborative approach, understanding your role within the classroom and providing support when needed;
- resilience when faced with challenging situations and the ability to manage these professionally; and
- a reflective mindset, aware of your personal strengths and areas for growth.
Previous experience of supporting autistic children or young people would be particularly welcomed, although it is not essential. We encourage applications from experienced Teaching Assistants as well as those looking to develop their career in education.
You'll be enrolled on our Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Programme if you work 20 hours or more per week and don't already hold this qualification.
We're looking for someone who shares our commitment to equality and promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people. Does this sound like you?
