Queen Margaret University, Division of Psychology, Sociology and Education seeks to add to its dynamic and socially-engaged social science team with the appointment of a 0.5 FTE Lecturer in Social Science with expertise in current data-informed, socially and theoretically relevant social science to support our undergraduate provision across the Division. The successful postholder will teach on our highly regarded degrees across Psychology, Sociology and/or Education. The post advertised includes teaching and learning in interdisciplinary spaces between some or all of these disciplines, and also requires an ability to teach both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
This is an exciting opportunity for career development and progression. The purpose of the role is to provide excellent and innovative teaching both online and on campus; provide academic guidance to students; guide curriculum and programme design and undertake scholarship related to social science. We would also encourage appropriately experienced candidates to undertake research in an area that is in line with QMU's research strengths in social science. The post offers the opportunity to work with colleagues in the Division of Psychology, Sociology & Education, as well as across the University.
The postholder will have the opportunity to apply their skills, knowledge, and expertise to our undergraduate and postgraduate on-campus programmes, which share the core approach taken by the division of being intellectually rigorous and research based, with a focus on wellbeing, social justice and diversity at their core. There is also the potential to contribute to delivery of material on our online MSc programmes in Psychology and/or Education. Our programmes are designed to meet the challenges as well as recognise the rewards of living in the 21 st century information age and will prepare students by actively engaging them in contemporary issues in psychology, sociology and education and help them develop a sound knowledge of the range of factors that affect people in our society. It is important that the post-holders share the ethos of the division, school, and university in being concerned with issues of social justice and are passionate about applying this ethos in the delivery of our programmes.
We are seeking a motivated individual with an interest in any area of social science and demonstrable experience of scholarship and knowledge of research in an aspect of that subject. Your expertise must include some familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative approaches to research.
You will have experience of programme development, and knowledge of validation and accreditation procedures. The role is advertised as either a Teaching and Scholarship or a Teaching and Research position, and candidates with appropriate strengths for both types of role will be considered.
